Summary:
The article is based on two novels written by Stefan Chwin: Esther and Hanemann. In both cases the discussion is dedicated to women, mostly their presence. The writer creates his heroines using those kind of metaphorical accessories which let readers to suggest that absence causes better effect than physical being. In a sense the discussion is about theoretical loss. Theoretical, because in both novels women should be taken as a myth. Firstly the myth brings occasion to find a woman as a reason of temptation. In alternative reading a woman is compared to big loss. Both myths have something in common – a man. He creates those myths and in the end he decides in what moment “mythology” comes to the end.
