dr hab. Renata Zimnicka-Prabucka, prof. UWM

Born in 1972, Cerkiewnik. In 1999 she graduated in Painting under the supervision of prof. Janusz Kaczmarski from the Faculty of Arts at WSP in Olsztyn. She was a graphic editor of "Portret" in the years 2000-02.She received a scholarship fellow of the city of Olsztyn in the field of painting in the years 2001 and 2008. She is an originator of numerous art exhibitions promoting the works of Olsztyn's young artists and a commissioner of the art exhibition for "Kongres Kultury Warmii, Mazur i Powiśla 2 000". In 2006 she got the PhD at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Since 2007 she works as an assistant professor in The Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Warmia and Mazury. During her career she has been an author of 23 individual exhibitions and attended several dozen group expositions. In 2007, she won the Grand Prix of the Olsztyn's 5th biennial "O Medal Prezydenta".

My artistic search is an effort to understand the world intuitively, in its archetypical form. In painting I search for order, harmony and truth thanks to which I could understand other people. In painting I search for the ultimate form. The difficulty in finding this "ultimate necessity", which is a part of every artistic creation, is connected to the problem of finding my own artistic ego.

For many contemporary artists, the hasty, nervous "external" becomes the main subject of search. Finding and expressing one's identity (and means for such an expression), not an illusion but the truth about one's self, is put aside. As far as I am concerned, identity is the most important source of creative powers. Anthropocentric idea of the world, in which the human being would be at the top of existential pyramid, is strange to me. We constitute only one of the accordant elements - one of the voices and one of the colours of the world. Confined by our physicality and mortality we see only strips of the reality. This other, eternal reality will eventually show us a new, perfect picture. On the other hand, it is not possible to create a picture without the feeling that you are taking part in the contemporaneity, with its development, dynamism of technology, civilisation, media...
