1. What are cookies?
These are small text files, called cookies, sent by the web server and saved on the User's device (computer, smartphone, tablet) while browsing websites. These files usually contain the name of the website they come from, their storage time on the end device and a unique number used to identify the browser from which the website is connected. "Cookies" files enable, among others: adapting the website to the User's preferences, handling logging in and displaying pages intended only for the User.
2. For what purpose do we use cookies?
Online websites and applications of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn use "cookies" for the following purposes:
- handling the login mechanism - we use session cookies to maintain the User's session after logging in, thanks to which the User does not have to re-enter the login and password on each subpage of a given website
- adapting the content of websites and applications to the User's preferences
- creating anonymous statistics that help understand how Users use UWM websites
- The website of the University of Warmia and Mazury Publishing House in Olsztyn (wydawnictwo.uwm.edu.pl) uses "cookies" to operate the shopping cart. Completely blocking cookies will prevent the shopping cart mechanism from functioning properly.
When using UWM websites, cookies from external websites may be saved on the User's device, such as:
Google Analytics - some UWM websites (e.g. home page www.uwm.edu.pl) use the Google Analytics service to create anonymous statistics. This means that when visiting UWM websites, cookies from Google Inc. may be saved on the User's device. 3. How to change browser settings to manage cookies?
Cookies can be blocked by changing the settings of your web browser. You can change your browser settings to receive a notification before each attempt to place a cookie. You can also change your settings so that your browser rejects all cookies or only some of them.
Lack of appropriate changes to these settings constitutes acceptance of the cookies used on UWM websites (in accordance with the current browser settings). We would like to inform you that limiting or disabling the use of cookies may cause difficulties in using some functions of our websites, e.g. logging in to your email account.
