Vessel for formation of bilayer lipid membranes by Mueller-Rudin method*

Last modified: January 1, 2006

  • body of the vessel is made from Teflon
  • size 60x30x30 mm
  • volume of each chamber10 cm3
  • thickness of the septum between chambers 0.3 mm
  • diameter of the hole between chambers 1 mm
  • windows are made from glass

Crossing trough the septum separeted two chambers in the measurement vessel.

The bilayer lipid membrane is formed inside the hole in the septum. The membrane is surrounded by the Plateau-Gibbs border. The border is composited of a membrane forming solution (polar lipids dissolved in an organic solvent, e.g. decane).
