INTERNAL REGULATIONS OF THE Department of Pediatrics PRINCIPLES OF STUDYING AT THE PAEDIATRIC DEPARTMENT
1. The principles of studying refer to full-time and extramural studies of the 1st and 2nd degree in nursing and full-time regular masters in medicine. 2. Terminology applied in these Regulations shall mean as follows: Didactic cycle – didactic classes and end-of-term examination sessions in a given academic year; “Zero” exam – the exam conducted on the date before the beginning of the end-of-term examination session; Syllabus of the subject – the description of the contents of the subject and classes, together with the manner of their realisation, the list of books constituting the basis of the programme, the description of requirements connected with the participation in the classes and the manner of receiving a “pass” for the classes and the subject. 3. Practical classes and lectures take place in the hours provided in the classes schedule. The student is obliged to participate in the classes with the group to which he/she was allocated at the beginning of the academic year. 4. The student is obliged to be ready to take an active part in the classes, according to the principles specified by the lecturer. 5. The student is obliged to be prepared for each class within the scope of the material. The lecturer is entitled to assess the level of students’ preparedness in a written or oral form. Upon establishing that the student’s level of preparedness is unsatisfactory, the lecturer is entitled to disallow the student’s participation in the classes and specify the manner in which he/she may obtain a “pass” to compensate for the absence. 6. The Head of the Department specifies the differences in the programme of studies for the student commencing his/her education at the Faculty of Medical Sciences on the principle of a transfer. The student must obtain a “pass” for the material outstanding as a result of programme differences within the time limit specified by the Head of the Department. 7. A semester/academic year constitutes a didactic cycle for which a “pass” must be obtained, 8. The student is obliged to complete the semester/year within the deadline indicated in the UWM chancellor’s resolution. 9. The general principles on which the “pass” is obtained are specified in the syllabus. The specific principles (the number and dates of tests) are provided by the lecturer in the first week of the classes. 10. Student’s attendance at the laboratories, seminars and lectures is controlled. The participation in the lectures is controlled if it constitutes the only form of classes in a given subject. Medical certificate or other certificate confirming the occurrence of important life circumstances constitutes the basis for justification of the absence. 11. If the student failed to obtain a “pass” for laboratories in a specified time, he/she is entitled to have another attempt during the end-of-term examination session in a form specified by the lecturer. In the event the student receives the “pass”, he/she is entitled to only one attempt at passing the exam. 12. The student who failed to obtain a “pass” in a given subject may apply for a conditional pass for the consecutive semester/year of studies. In order to receive a “pass” for classes or an exam, he/she is entitled to three attempts. 13. The student may take an oral exam only before the end-of-term examination session, on the principles specified by the lecturer of a given subject. 14. The “zero” exam cannot be set earlier than a week before the beginning of the end-of-term examination session. Not passing the exam results in the obligation to re-sit it in the repeat examination session. 15. Only those students who failed the exam or failed to take it are entitled to retake the exam in the repeat examination session. The absence in the exam results in a loss of the attempt. 16. The student is entitled to regain the attempt to take the exam in the event of the absence resulting from the disease (or life circumstances), on condition that a medical certificate is submitted within 10 days from the date of the exam. The decision whether the absence is justified is taken by the Head of the Paediatric Department. 17. A positive mark obtained by the student at the exam is final and cannot be changed. 18. The Head of the Paediatric Department establishes principles for equivalence of marks in each individual case. 19. Order and cleanliness must be kept on the premises of the Department and on the location where the classes shall take place. Smoking is forbidden. Food consumption is forbidden during the classes. 20. The Principles of the Regulations of Studying at the University of Warmia and Mazury as well as the Statute of the University of Warmia and Mazury shall apply in issues not regulated in these Principles of Studying at the Paediatric Department, or they shall be subject to a decision of the Head of the Paediatric Department. 21. These Regulations shall become valid on the date of their signing by the Head of the Department. 22. Scientific and intellectual achievements arising in connection with the cooperation with the Paediatric Department shall be its property and are subject to legal protection of intellectual property. |
