The article deals with the influence of music on the outstanding Ukrainian poet and human rights activist Vasyl Stus. A reflection of such influence can be found in many of his poems. Musical fascinations to some extent determined the life attitude of the poet. He was fascinated by both folk songs and classical music, including works by Chopin and Beethoven. Many poems by Vasyl Stus became the basis of musical creativity. The songs to his words are performed as an apotheosis of freedom and as the embodiment of the people's conscience. His lyrical poems are also full of extraordinary energy. Ukrainian intellectuals still demand the historical memory of the life of Vasyl Stus and the explanation of the circumstances of the mysterious death of Vasyl Stus and the poet's imprisonment for 40 years after the trial.
