INSTITUTE OF SPATIAL MANAGEMENT AND GEOGRAPHY
THE INSTITUTE OF SPATIAL MANAGEMENT AND GEOGRAPHY represents the field of economic sciences, the discipline of socio-economic geography and spatial management. The Institute was established by Ordinance No. 117/2019 of December 19, 2019 of the Rector of UWM and has existed since January 1, 2020.
Included under the Institute of Spatial Management and Geography are 3 Departments: the Department of Spatial Analyses and the Real Estate Market, The Department of Land Management and Geographic Information Systems, and The Department of Socio-Economic Geography. The Institute employs 48 workers; this includes 41 research-academic workers, including 2 professors, 8 professors of UWM, 19 assistant professors, 7 lecturers, 5 assistants and 7 workers who are not university teachers.
The main directions of scientific research are:
- Real estate valuation and the real estate market,
- Demographic, social and economic problems,
- Spatial planning,
- Landscape planning and environmental protection,
- Real estate management systems,
- Geographic information systems as well as modern information technologies,
- The development of urban and rural space.
The carried out research resulted in numerous publications in renowned scientific journals with an international scope and the realization of financial grants from the funds of both national and foreign scientific and commercial organizations.
As of 28 May 2020, the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles authorized The University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn to award doctoral degrees in the field of social sciences in the discipline of socio-economic geography and spatial development.
