dr Adam Mieczykowski

ADAM MIECZYKOWSKI - the graduate of the first and second level of F. Chopin State Music School in Olsztyn,  and The  I. J. Paderewski Music Academy of Poznań  in drums class /1990/. He also graduated from postgraduate studies in company management done at the  University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and the postgraduate studies for  cultural resource managers in the Warsaw School of Economics.  In  2000 he obtained the first level artistic  qualifications in  instrumental studies - percussion,  awarded by a resolution of the Instrumental Department Board of the I. J. Paderewski Music Academy of Poznań. Having started his artistic activity as a student, in 1986-1990 he played in the legendary Poznań Percussion Band that had been working under the supervision of professor Jerzy Zgodziński. At that time, the band was actively involved in giving a series of concerts and making archive recordings throughout the country and abroad. The most significant of that time may be the 1988 performance at the Drums And Percussion Festival in Copenhagen, The Moscow Conservatory performance, and, staging at prestigious festivals such as Poznan Musical Spring and  Warsaw Music Autumn.  In the years of 1988 - 2002 he cooperated with The Poznań Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio conducted by Agnieszka Duczmal with whom Mr Mieczykowski concerted in almost all European countries e.g. in the Golden Hall of Vienna Music Association; he has also recorded numerous records, radio and television programs with the music of e.g.  Rodion Shchedrin, George Bizet, Marek Bilinski and Krzysztof Penderecki. In 1987-1990 working in the Poznań Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra as an orchestra musician - percussionist, he participated in a wide range of concerts - home and foreign tours.  He performed as a soloist with the Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of Olsztyn (2003) and Płock Symphony Orchestra (2009); also, as a soloist and chamber musician in concert e.g. for the celebration of  the 650 - anniversary of the city of Olsztyn, under XXIV Olsztyn Organ Concerts, II Regional Percussion Festival in Olsztyn, 55 anniversary of the Olsztyn first and second level State Music School.

Percussion Duo is  the latest artistic project Mr Mieczykowski  made his debut with in September 2010, during the SkArPa festival in Płock,  presenting a silhouette of Stefan Themmerson artist.  In the program he used original compositions of percussion music and transcriptions played on the exotic instrumentarium with the use of multimedia techniques.  

Being the percussion music art promoter and initiator of many art projects, he participated in music presentations by contemporary composers, seminars, workshops and festivals; moreover, he has  developed his own curriculum of playing the percussion.

1991-2003 he was in charge of the percussion class in the first and second level State Music School in Olsztyn, whereas at present he teaches in the first and second level State Music School of Płock (where in the years of  2002-2004 he held the position of deputy director there).

Active educational work resulted within a short time in successes of students, confirmed with  awarded to them high positions in numerous regional and national competitions. Since 1999, he started working as an assistant at the Institute of Music at  the University of Warmia and Mazury, currently as a Senior Lecture. He was the initiator and organizer of the Regional Percussion Festival whose three subsequent editions were held in 2001-2003. Nowadays, he is  also connected with Płock.

1994 - 2004 he worked as an orchestra musician in The Witold Lutosławski Płock Symphony Orchestra, and since July 2004 has been its director. The member of:  the Wacław Lachman Płock Music Association  /in the years 2001 - 2005 Vice President/, Program Council  of the Grant Fund for Płock /2010-2011/; certified teacher and an expert on teachers' career advancement.

For his artistic, educational and organizational work, he received much recognition and was often awarded e.g.  by: the Polish President, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Minister of National Education and Sports, the Rector of the Warmia and Mazury University, the City President and School Headmaster.   His interests include percussion - in all terms: both performance and creative aspects; active resting - in particular, windsurfing and skiing.
