Artistic Education in the field of Visual Arts
DESCRIPTION OF THE MAJOR
In accordance with The Bologna Charter, the Institute of Fine Arts conducts three-year first-degree undergraduate bachelor studies – and two-year second-degree masters studies, both in daytime studies system. The first-degree graduates obtain a bachelor title; the second-degree graduates obtain a master title.
REQUIREMENT
First degree studies at the major: Arts Education in the field of Plastic Arts last 3 years (6 semesters) and have a general academic profile. The study major fits within the scope of education in the area of fine arts. The total number of teaching hours is 2217 with additional 12 hours of general academic education; the number of ECTS points is: 181.50.
Second degree studies at the major: Arts Education in the field of Plastic Arts last 2 years (4 semesters) and have a general academic profile. The study major fits within the scope of education in the area of fine arts. The total number of teaching hours is 1062 with additional 12 hours of general academic education; the number of ECTS points is: 121.50.
EDUCATIONAL CONCEPT
In the framework of the major: "Artistic Education in the field of Visual Arts", the Institute of Fine Arts of the UWM in Olsztyn prepares students to work as visual artists, active artists in the field of visual arts as well as participants and animators of contemporary culture.
General education subjects: philosophy, information technology, foreign language, physical education.
Basic subjects: history of art, cultural anthropology, iconosphere, psychology of visual perception, audio-visual communication, promotion and advertising of visual culture, voice emission, contemporary art critique, history of contemporary art.
Specialist subjects: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, visual structures, intermedia, graphic design, multimedia, photography, degree project art studio, final project seminar.
TRAINING CLASSES AND OUTDOOR WORK TRIPS
- Training in culture centres – after the 2nd year (150 hours)
- Open air study trip (100 hours)
GRADUATION EXAM
The graduation exam at the first-degree studies consists of two parts: a defence of a written graduation study and artistic bachelor degree exam (presentation of artistic works created during the 3rd year of studies). The master degree exam at the complementary studies consists of two steps: a written master's thesis and artistic master's examination carried out at the 1st and 2nd year of the 2nd level.
SCIENTIFIC STAFF
The artistic and educational staff of the Institute of Fine Arts consists of highly qualified academic teachers of different levels. Its composition includes well-known artists and educationalists of different specialities.
GRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS
A graduate: possesses knowledge and skills of a qualified visual artist - an artist in the scope of plastic arts as well as participant and organizer of contemporary culture. A graduate is prepared to accomplish and disseminate various forms of visual and media presentations for artistic, cognitive, educational and functional purposes. A graduate is prepared to undertake creative occupational work at centers and institutions dealing with culture, the arts and extra-school education; in mass-media as well as in promotion and advertisement structures. A graduate is fluent in a selected foreign language at B2 level of The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. A graduate is prepared to undertake the second degree studies.
A graduate possesses consolidated knowledge in the scope of arts and humanities as well as skills allowing him/her to perform as a qualified visual artist, an active artist in the scope of plastic arts as well as participant and organizer of contemporary culture. A graduate possesses skills to prepare and disseminate various forms of visual and media presentations for artistic, cognitive, educational and functional purposes. A graduate possesses the skill of using the acquired knowledge in individual and group artistic activity. A graduate is prepared to be a group leader and to continue education in dynamically changing reality. A graduate is prepared to undertake self-reliant creative artistic work and to undertake occupational work at centers and institutions dealing with culture and arts as well as in promotion and advertisement structures. A graduate is prepared to continue education at the third degree studies (PhD studies).
