History of The Institute of Fine Arts
The Institute of Fine Arts was created after multiple organisational transformations. In 1990, the Department of Visual Art Education was established and undergraduate studies were initiated. Four years later, the Department of Visual Art Education was transformed into the Interdepartmental Institution for Visual Art Education, and masters-degree studies were initiated.
In 1996, the Institute of Visual Art Education was created. Along with the Institute of Music Education, it belonged to the Department of Artistic Education.
In connection with the establishment of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn in 1999, the Institute of Visual Art Education was included in the Faculty of Pedagogy and Artistic Education. One year later, its name was changed from the Institute of Visual Art Education to the Institute of Fine Arts and in 2001, in connection with the new organisational principles of the University of Warmia and Mazury, the Institute of Fine Arts was transformed into the Department of Fine Arts.
The institution was led by the following artists: Prof. Józef Słobosz, Prof. Adolf Gwozdek, Prof. Janusz Kaczmarski, Prof. Adolf Szczepiński, Prof. Stanisław Trzeszczkowski, Prof. Piotr Obarek. The development of the institution accompanied the artistic and scientific development of the staff. Didactic employees defended their first and second degree artistic dissertations in the fields of: painting, graphic art, graphic design, there was also significant development in the field of didactic and methodological subjects. In 2008, the Department of Fine Arts was transformed into the Institute of Fine Arts.
