Artur Milian (1950- ) Violinist, concertmaster, university lecturer
Biography
Artur Milian was born on 22 August 1950 in Gliwice, Poland. In 1973, he graduated from the Academy of Music in Katowice (in the class of Prof. Stanisław Lewandowski). For his post-graduate studies, he attended the Moscow Conservatory from 1974 to 1976 (in the class of Prof. Galina Barinowa). Since 2004 he has held the title of full professor at the Institute of Music, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (UWM). Additionally, he has worked as full professor since 2006 at the Olsztyn College of Informatics and Management in the Institute of Cultural Studies. Since the beginning of 2012, he has served as the director of the Department of Instrumental Pedagogy. A member of the Association of Polish Musicians since 1978.

Artistic Activity
Since 1977 Mr. Milian has been the concertmaster of the Warmia-Masuria Philharmonic Orchestra in Olsztyn, Poland. He had the same position in the Bari Symphony Orchestra (1983-84) and the Wiener Mozart Oper and Sinfonietta de Paris (1988-1992). In 1987 he founded the Philharmonic Olsztyn String Quartet and in 24 September 2009 the UWM Fine Arts Faculty String Quartet. In the last fourty years, he has performed hundreds of concerts as a soloist as well as a chamber music player in Poland, Russia, Germany, Romania, the Czech Republic, Italy, France, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark and the USA. With symphony orchestras, he has performed violin and orchestra concertos of the following composers: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Lipiński, Tchaikovsky, Dworak, Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Wissmer and Cesa. Milian was a jury member during the international music competitions in Vienna (1992-1995) and Brasov (1993).
